Walter Taylor Bridge renewal works

What’s happening

Brisbane City Council will be replacing structural steel nodes on the Walter Taylor Bridge. These works are essential to ensure the bridge remains safe and reliable long term.

To carry out the works safely, the bridge must be fully unloaded. This means the bridge will be closed across selected weekends in May and June 2026.

Bridge closures

The Walter Taylor Bridge will be closed to all vehicles during the following times:

  • 9pm Friday 22 May – 5am Monday 25 May
  • 9pm Friday 29 May – 5am Monday 1 June
  • 9pm Friday 5 June – 5am Monday 8 June
  • 9pm Friday 19 June – 5am Monday 22 June

Traffic and access changes

  • The bridge will be closed to vehicles during the listed weekends.
  • Wharf Street (between Rosebery Terrace and Regatta Street) and Radnor Street (between Foxton Street and Riverview Terrace) will also be closed during these times.
  • Overnight lane closures will occur from late April (9pm–5am, Sunday to Thursday) for scaffolding installation, and again from mid‑June for removal. Delays may occur.

For real-time traffic information, check the QLDTraffic app, visit qldtraffic.qld.gov.au, or call 13 19 40.

Pedestrian and cyclist access

  • The Walter Taylor Bridge footpath will close from late April 2026 until works are complete.
  • Pedestrians and cyclists can continue to cross the river via the Jack Pesch Bridge and Indooroopilly Riverwalk.

Public transport changes

  • Bus routes 105, 106, 127, 598 and 599 will be impacted.
  • Passengers will need to change buses on either side of the river and use the train to cross.
  • Check the Translink app or website for service updates and temporary stop locations.

Finished early?

If works are completed ahead of schedule, the bridge will reopen earlier. Updates will be shared as they become available.
