Oscar AI Recycling Unit

The Oscar AI recycling unit is now a permanent part of our sustainability program in the Level 3 Food Court. Using real‑time image recognition, it helps customers correctly sort their waste and reduces contamination across key streams including General Waste, Containers for Change, Organics, and Paper/Cardboard.

Food court waste can be complex, and customers often assume packaging is recyclable when it isn’t. Oscar AI provides clear guidance at the point of disposal, helping to lower landfill volumes, improve recycling quality, and support long‑term behavioural change.

Since launching on 14 December 2023, the unit has shown strong engagement, with customers regularly checking items before disposing of them. The adaptive system continues to learn from disposal patterns, providing insights that help shape ongoing waste‑reduction initiatives across the centre.

By bringing smart recycling technology front‑of‑house, we’re empowering customers to play an active role in creating a cleaner, more sustainable shopping experience.
