Walter Taylor Bridge Closure

The Walter Taylor Bridge is both a heritage-listed icon and important cross-river connection for the local community. That's why as part of the Brisbane City Council’s maintenance program, these specialised works on the bridge are essential to ensure safe access and serve the community for decades to come. 


  • Preliminary bridge works: 9pm - 5am Monday 2 September through to Friday 13 September
  • Full bridge closure: 9pm Friday 13 September through to 5am Monday 30 September
  • Bridge footpath closure: 26 August to 5am Monday 30 September


Motorists and public transport commuters should expect localised traffic changes with lengthy delays including road closures, traffic disruptions and changed Council bus services and stops. 



FOOTPATH CHANGES

  • Pedestrian and cyclist access will remain open via the Jack Pesch Bridge
  • The footpath underneath the bridge on Wharf Street will be intermittently closed during the works
  • The Indooroopilly Riverwalk will remain open


ROAD CLOSURES

  • The Walter Taylor Bridge roadway and surrounding roads will be closed for the duration of the works
  • Motorists will need to follow the designated detour routes via Oxley Road, Seventeen Mile Rocks Road, and the Centenary Highway, as shown in the maps below

CHANGED COUNCIL BUS SERVICES 

The following bus routes will be impacted by the closure:

  • 598/599 - Great Circle Line
  • 105
  • 106
  • 108

Please note that temporary bus stop changes will be in place.


TRAIN SERVICES

Throughout this period train services will continue however, there are changes to station accessibility. 


ACCESSIBLE TRANSFER - SOUTH

Graceville train station is the closest station with lift access south of the bridge. Commuters who cannot use stairs and who need to transfer from a train to a bus, will need to use bus stops adjacent to Graceville train station to access their usual bus route. 


ACCESSIBLE TRANSFER - NORTH

Indooroopilly train station has lift access to Westminster Road. From there passengers can travel about 275 meters to Clarence Road Stop 36 (Stop ID 001666) and catch buses 427, 428 or 432.

Alternatively, Coonan Street Stop 53 (Stop ID 1665) is about 250 meters along Coonan Street from Indooroopilly station, outside Eldorado cinema. 

  • 598 services will terminate here after servicing Indooroopilly Shopping Centre
  • 599 Services will commence from here linking to Indooroopilly Shopping Centre and then the normal route

Bus passengers travelling via Indooroopilly to Sherwood or Graceville stations should disembark at Lambert Street Stop 35 (Stop ID 001663) and catch the train from Indooroopilly train station. 


For stair access the underpass at Indooroopilly station exits on Station Road.
