Mix And Match These SS21 Must-Haves

It’s no surprise that how we dress can have a huge impact on how we feel. And given the current climate, designers are taking a closer examination of our clothes’ purpose and what we need from fashion. One thing’s for sure, we’ve seen an amalgamation of fabulous clothes being designed to put the joy back into getting dressed, along with the return of more classic pieces that tip their hat to the decades and fill us with nostalgia.
From new-age suits to ballgown-like dresses, we’ve compiled the ultimate must-haves for spring summer 2021 – perfect for mixing and matching together, along with the pieces already in your wardrobe. You’ll find all of these trending pieces and more lining the store windows at Indooroopilly Shopping Centre.

Super suits: play with new fabrics, shapes, and cuts to transform your typical suit

No longer are we adhering to the strict and traditional wool blazer and matching trousers combination. Shirt suits, sleeveless blazers, satin, linen – whatever fabric, shape, and cut you can possibly think of, the runways have it on full display.
A must-have look for this season is a breezy, loose-fitting button-up shirt, paired with flowy pants: we’re obsessing over this pyjama-suit look, which just happens to be more-than-ideal for those WFH Zoom meetings. After all, a super suit is a suit that makes you feel powerful and uncompromisingly chic no matter what, or where you are.

Cut it out: subtle side splicing, cold shoulders, and elegantly exposed backs

We’re already envisioning the funky tan lines that are going to come out this season thanks to the emergence of playful splicing and cut-outs. Typically spotted at the hips, but also across the stomach or at the neckline, this trend gives an alternative way to flash a bit of flesh, while still looking chic.
Add a little edginess to your flowy sundress with a flash of skin around the waistline. While a turtleneck or sleeveless tank with a cut-out design will add an edgy aesthetic to a fashion-forward outfit.

Tropic like it’s hot: pile on the print with resort-style looks

A common theme explored by many designers for SS21 was ‘escapism’, and nothing conveys this more than a sea of palm tree prints, bejewelled beach motifs, and painterly patterns. With a major uptick in resort attire, we’re loving timeless swimsuits paired with loud and proud, beach-printed pants.
There’s no shortage of bold prints with this trend, but if you find them a bit daunting, opt for a bright-coloured dress or linen set to wear as the centrepiece of your look. This way, you can build on the look with brighter accessories, such as a chunky necklace or, our personal favourite – starfish-shaped studs.

Airy fairy: float to new heights with these light and breezy pieces

With weddings rescheduled and evening plans put on hold, designers have optimistically imagined the most beautiful airy pieces ready for whatever grand event creeps up next. Layers of tulle, puffy sleeves, full A-line skirts, and ruffle detailing – these flamboyant pieces allow you to breeze through your day while effusing a fairy-like silhouette.
What makes ruffled and puffed pieces so great is their versatility. Got a Sunday morning brunch coming up? Pair an airy linen dress featuring broderie Anglaise trims with some low-heel sandals and you’ll feel like you’re floating towards your French toast. Or, if you’re lucky to be attending a wedding sometime soon, an extravagant, floaty maxi dress, that’s softly gathered for movement, will elevate your entire look.
