Born and bred into the fruit industry, it was easy to see how passionate Joseph from Indooroopilly Fruit is about his business when we sat down with him for a chat. So much so that his Dad says, “he was born with apple juice in his veins”! Joseph is now a third-generation fruit shop owner, and he explains that it all started when his grandfather transitioned from sugarcane farming to starting his first fruit shop at Annerley. Joe stepped into the business at 19, which was the same age his dad started his first fruit shop, under the guidance of Joseph’s grandfather.

Joe and his business partner Rob attribute the flawless Indooroopilly Fruit displays that we know and love to his team of 40, who Joe describes as “amazing staff members who are all so passionate about what they do. We are obviously perfectionists!”. Joe explains that all the hard work pays off for the team when they receive thanks from customers for providing such fresh produce for their families. The store’s success relies heavily on the family-nature of the team, who create what Joe describes as “his happy place”.

We dug a little deeper into what makes Joe tick outside of his beloved fruit shop, but he firmly confirmed that, “If I am not working, I’m probably out doing something else for the business, I was born to do this. I haven’t had a day off in two years!”. It is this passion that see’s Indooroopilly Fruit attract customers living up to 5 hours away, who make the drive just to pick up their favourite fruit and veggies.

We asked Joe if he had a favourite fruit, and he introduced us to an exotic variety called a Mango Steen. It is the same shape as a tomato but purple on the outside, and Joe describes it as soft, sweet and juicy! He also loves roast cauliflower and eggplant, especially during Winter. Around this time of year when Brisbane gets a little chilly, Joe explains that this is when customers can find the freshest, crunchiest apples and mandarins! He also sees an increase in customers buying veggies for broths and soups (including us!).

Joe and the team are up at 2am each morning sourcing the freshest produce to ensure the Indooroopilly community can enjoy top quality product at their fingertips. We appreciate the work ethic and passion that Joe brings to Indooroopilly Shopping Centre, and we encourage everyone to check out the store on Level 1, if you haven’t already!
