How to incorporate accessories to make any outfit look on trend

The moment we grow tired of our day-to-day outfits, many of us believe we need to start from scratch and find ourselves a brand-new wardrobe altogether. But little did we know that the most reliable staples – a structured white t-shirt, mum jeans, a little black dress – are the ultimate blank canvases to project your favourite trends onto. All you need are the right accessories.

Don’t underestimate the power of a few key accessories! They can transform your look in an instant. And we’re here to show you how. You can find all of these on-trend pieces, and more, lining the boutique windows at Indooroopilly Shopping Centre.

Add geometric shapesto your look with these structured bags

Gone are the days where the humble handbag used to be an addition to your outfit purely for its functionality. Now, geometric shapes, chic new colourways, and reinvented classics are dominating the latest handbag trends. Check out a few of our favourites that are sticking around for the seasons to come.

The curved carryall

Curved, crescent, and croissant shapes – we want it all! Curved handbags are the iconic 90s-era shoulder grazer currently on our radars. This slouchy, roomy carryall has been given a completely elevated update, giving it a more structured shape, while still combining the best of the decades. So really, there’s little reason to not cradle one of these under your shoulder.

The pillow pouch

You’re going to want to get comfortable with this rising bag trend. Puffy bags with padded surfaces and dumpling-like folds are back on the market, catching all of our eyes. Thanks to the fashion-forward designers of Bottega Veneta, these pillowy pouches have gone straight to the top of our must-own list.

The reimagined tote

From the gym to the office, to drinks after work, the ultimate staple piece to complement any outfit is the tote bag. And lucky for us, the iconic Marc Jacobs tote has gotten an upgrade for 2021. With its minimalistic pattern, clean lines, and timeless Marc Jacobs logo on the front, this larger-than-life tote is both fashionable and functional.

Stack it: master the art of jewellery stacking

0821_Indooroopilly_On-Trend_In-Body_942x530_2.jpg

When it comes to special events, we all love to flaunt a pair of our most lavish statement earrings and chunky necklaces. But there’s a new accessory trend on the block that’s going against the grain: jewellery stacking. No longer are we divided into minimalist and maximalist – this fun and flexible trend is a beautiful amalgamation of the two – perfect for the bold and modern woman.

Start off by layering dainty pieces first, such as a long necklace with a thin chain and a small pendant. Then, start building on this with slightly more chunky pieces, like a short, chain necklace. As for your earrings, asymmetry is best – opt for a small hoop or short drop earring as your first layer. And if you’re someone with more than one ear piercing, continue adding earrings that are shorter in length than your first one. This layered style allows you to mix and match different lengths and styles to create a look that really makes you stand out from the crowd.

Put your best foot forward by stepping into a pair of statement shoes

Nothing breathes new life into an outfit like a pair of shoes with ‘wow factor’. And this year, no shortage of chic styles to transform any of your outfits.

Ruched and padded mules

Reigning supreme on the runways is the ruched and cushion shoe trend. We’re loving the scrunched details that instantly take any mule or sandal to the next level. Its textured, thick sandal straps in all different styles and colours give off a minimal-meets-feminine look.

Strappy sandals

From flats to kitten heels, strappy sandals have made the ultimate fashion comeback. Perfect for finishing off a laidback jeans and tee look, or, if you’ve got a work event or even a future wedding to attend to, low heels with straps offer both comfort and style.

Chunky sandals and thongs

These sporty-style, platforms have earned themselves a controversial reputation in the past for being the ultimate ‘dad shoe’. But now? They’re the epitome of chic and cool, and we think your outfits deserve their undivided attention.

These shades will elevate your outfit instantly

While they may be a small accessory, sunglasses have a large impact on your look.

Buggin’ out

Bug-eyed shades with a round or oval frame are reminiscent of all things retro and nostalgic. We recommend updating your round frames with novelty design elements, such as a tortoiseshell pattern or bright-coloured lenses.

Butterfly effect

A quirky take on the classic cat-eye frames, there’s an almost extra-terrestrial look to butterfly sunglasses, which is what has made them soar to the top of this year’s sunglasses trends. A reason for you to add these shades to your accessory wardrobe.

Spectacular rectangular

Their silhouette gives a subtle nod to 90s style, without overdoing it. They’re the perfect balance between effortlessly cool and easy wearability.

The angular cat-eye

A recurring favourite, the classic yet contemporary cat-eye sunnies helps define cheekbones and enliven even the most underdressed outfit. Go all out with a bold, exaggerated frame – this will pack some personality back into a toned-down outfit.

Fair and square

What better way to make a statement with our outfit than with XXL square shades? Enhance any look by investing in square-shaped styles with luxurious neutral tones, like rich browns, blacks, and even pale pinks, for an elevated feel.

Tinted aviators

Aviators have made a triumphant return this year. Their iconic large frames, once made for pilots, are now beloved by all. And this season’s iterations have been reinvented with thicker structure and brightly tinted frames.
